LRS FAQ

  • What is the Lawyer Referral Service (LRS)?

The ACBA’s Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) provides callers with referrals to qualified lawyers who can help them with their legal issue. The LRS staff cannot give legal advice but can provide referrals in virtually all areas of the law. The lawyers are referred on a rotational basis by their area of legal expertise.

  • Who can use the LRS?

The LRS can help anyone who needs to hire an attorney.

  • What types of cases do attorneys on the LRS panel take?

Our attorneys are well versed in many areas of law. The majority of referrals requested are in the areas of landlord/tenant issues, divorce and child custody, general civil litigation and criminal law. However, we also have attorneys who practice in the areas of malpractice, personal injury and Social Security/Disability.

  • Can I get a referral for a pro bono attorney?

No. The LRS does not provide referrals to pro bono attorneys or low-cost legal services. The attorneys on LRS charge their normal rates and fees based upon your legal issue.

  • Will I talk to an attorney when I call the LRS?

There are no attorneys on-site and LRS staff are not licensed attorneys and cannot give legal advice.

  • How long do I have to wait to meet with the attorney?

As soon as you receive the referral, you should call the attorney to discuss your case. If the attorney is unable to take your call immediately,  schedule an in-person or telephone consultation with the attorney’s assistant.

  • Can I get more than one referral?

The LRS staff can only provide one referral per phone call. You may receive additional referrals if the attorney has a conflict of interest or is otherwise unable to take your case. Every attorney on the LRS panel has an active caseload and may not be able to take your call immediately.

  • How much does the attorney charge?

All of the attorneys on the LRS panel are full-fee attorneys in private practice. The LRS does not maintain fee information on the panelists. If you decide to retain the attorney after the initial 30-minute consultation, you will need to discuss the fees and payment options with the attorney at that time.

  • How do I use the LRS?

Simply contact our office at (260) 423-2358.  Office hours are 9am until 2pm Monday through Friday.  We will find the right attorney for your case. For a $40.00 referral fee, an attorney will provide a 30-minute consultation. LRS staff will determine the most appropriate referral for your legal concern and refer you to the proper attorney or agency.

You may also fill out the Online Lawyer Request Form and someone from our office will be in contact with you. Or, you may use the Online Self-Referral on our website.
